Live images of RHEL 6 (Beta)

First public Beta of RHEL 6 was released, everyone's testing it out and you also want to, but won't devote a partition on your hard drive to it? (And also VirtualBox and KVM don't work for you... :). Using a live media seems a natural choice. But wait, there are not any! Oh noes!

Fortunatelly, with a few tiny changes to Fedora's livecd creation tooling you can roll your own. Obviously, I can't post complete live media images, but here's what I did to generate my ones (and what can you do as well):

  1. Install python-imgcreate patched for proper dracut support (bug 588622)
  2. Get the kickstart files modified for el6 (available from GIT)
  3. Generate the iso (as root) and eventually transfer it to a Flash stick

This is what would it look like:

  # rpm -Uvh http://fedorapeople.org/~lkundrak/livecd/python-imgcreate-031-1.fc13.bz588622.i686.rpm
  # git clone git://fedorapeople.org/~lkundrak/spin-kickstarts.git
  # cd spin-kickstarts
  # livecd-creator -c fedora-live-desktop.ks -f rhel6-beta
  # livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr --noverify --overlay-size-mb 666 rhel6-beta.iso /dev/<flash-stick>

Please note that package selection in my kickstart files only loosely correspond to the Fedora, so there might be an extra package or a package missing. I recommend you to adjust them to your needs.
